What Makes God Smile
February 29, 2004
Matthew 22: 3440
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. ' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. "
Point to Ponder: God smiles when I trust Him
Since bringing pleasure to God is the first purpose of your life, your most important task is to discover how to do that. Fortunately, the Bible gives us a clear example of a life that gives pleasure to God. The mans name was Noah. From his life, we lean the five acts of worship that make God smile.
God smiles when we love Him supremely.
Isaiah 44:7 "This is what the LORD says--
's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God. Israel
(Isa 44:7 NIV) Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people, and what is yet to come yes, let him foretell what will come.
(Isa 44:8 NIV) Do not tremble, do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one."
God smiles when we trust Him completely.
Psalm 62:7 NIV My salvation and my honor depend on God ; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Psalm 62:8 NIV Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Selah
God smiles when we obey Him wholeheartedly.
Romans NIV Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.
God smiles when we praise and thank Him.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.
God smiles when we fulfill His purposes.
What God desires from us is a relationship.
