The Heart of Worship

March 21, 2004

Romans 6: 1—14

Point to Ponder : The Heart of Worship is Surrender.

Surrendering to God is the heart of worship.

True worship happens when you give yourself completely to God. Offering yourself to God is what worship is all about.

The act of  personal surrender is called many things: making Jesus Lord , taking up your cross, dying to self, yielding to the Spirit. God wants your life. All of it. 99% is not enough.

Trust is an essential ingredient to surrender. You won’t surrender to God unless you trust him.

Fear keeps us from surrendering but love casts out all fear. The more you realize how much God loves you, the easier surrendering becomes.

If God is going to do His deepest work in you, it will begin with surrender.
  Give it all to God.
        1.)     Your past regrets
        2.)     Your present problem
        3.)     Your future ambitions
        4.)     Your fears
        5.)     Dreams
        6.)     Weakness
        7.)     Habits
        8.)     Hurts
        9.)     Hang-ups

Put Christ in the driver seat of your life and take your hands off the steering wheel.

(James 4:7 NIV)  Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Question to Consider: What area of my life am I holding back from God? What am I afraid of?
