How does God fit into our schedule?

BIBLE READINGJoshua 3:1-11

KEY BIBLE VERSE: (Josh 3:9 NIV)  Joshua said to the Israelites, "Come here and listen to the words of the LORD your God.

In our schedule, giving attention to God ought to be our priority and center. Just before crossing over into the promised land, Joshua gathered the people to hear the words of the Lord. Their excitement was high. No doubt they wanted to rush on, but Joshua made them stop and listen. We live in a fast-paced age where everyone rushes just to keep up. It is easy to get caught up in our daily tasks and become too busy for what God says is most important—listening to his words. Before making your schedule, take time to focus on what God wants from all your activities. Knowing what God has said before you rush into your day may help you avoid foolish mistakes.

BIBLE READINGPsalm 31:1-24

KEY BIBLE VERSE: My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. (Psalm 31:15niv)

In our schedule, we should remember that every moment is a gift from God. In saying, “My times are in your hands,” David was expressing his belief that all of life’s circumstances are under God’s control. Knowing that God loves and cares for us enables us to keep steady in our faith regardless of our circumstances. It keeps us from sinning foolishly by taking matters into our own hands or resenting God’s timetable.

BIBLE READINGJohn 11:1-16

KEY BIBLE VERSE: (John 11:5 NIV)   Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus (John 11:6 NIV)  Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.

In our schedule, we must recognize that God’s plans take precedence. Jesus loved this family and often stayed with them. He knew their pain, but did not respond immediately. His delay had a specific purpose. God’s timing, especially his delays, may make us think he is not answering, or at least not the way we want him to. (Phil 4:19 NIV)  And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Patiently await his timing.
